SomersetWestGP – Medical Practice Website
Overview
A complete website created for a well-established family medical practice in Somerset West.
The project focused on presenting essential information clearly and professionally, ensuring patients can quickly find services, team details, and contact information without unnecessary visual distraction.
The design prioritises usability, readability, and a calm visual tone appropriate for a healthcare environment.
Project Approach
The primary goal was to build a reliable, easy-to-navigate website for a diverse patient base, including users of all ages and technical abilities.
Rather than aiming for a visually “modern” or decorative design, the emphasis was placed on structure, clarity, and consistency – ensuring the site feels approachable, trustworthy, and easy to use.
Key considerations included:
- Clear information hierarchy
- Minimal cognitive load for visitors
- Straightforward navigation across all pages
Design And Layout Decisions
From structure to finished site
The site was organised into clear, purpose-driven sections:
Home, Team, Services, and Contact.
Each page was designed to guide users naturally toward the information they are most likely to need, without overwhelming them with dense layouts or competing visual elements.
Homepage Layout
Team presentation and content clarity
The team section required handling real-world content such as staff photos, qualifications, and biographies in a consistent and respectful way.
A card-based layout was used to:
-
Keep profiles visually balanced
-
Maintain consistency across different content lengths
-
Allow users to explore individual profiles without cluttering the page
Team / Doctors page
Service-heavy content handled cleanly
The services page presents a large amount of medical information while remaining readable and scannable. Content was grouped and laid out to allow patients to quickly identify relevant services without needing to read long blocks of text.
Services Page
Contact And Usability Considerations
Special attention was given to the contact page, as it is one of the most frequently used areas of the site.
This included:
-
Clearly displayed operating hours
-
Easy access to contact details
-
A straightforward contact form
-
Integrated location map for first-time visitors
Contact Page
Responsive Behaviour
The website was designed to function consistently across desktop, tablet, and mobile devices.
Layouts were adapted to ensure:
-
Text remains readable on smaller screens
-
Navigation stays clear and accessible
-
Key information is not hidden or buried on mobile devices
- Creating a large, multi-section online registration form designed for clarity, completeness, and ease of use
What This Project Demonstrates
-
Designing a complete multi-page website for a real-world client
-
Structuring content for non-technical users
-
Prioritising usability over visual excess
-
Presenting large amounts of information clearly
-
Creating a reliable, responsive layout for desktop and mobile
