A Lifelong Evolution from Design to Code
Hi – I’m Wessel, a Java developer with a visual designer’s eye.
My fascination with computers began at age 12, typing out my first lines of BASIC on a Commodore 64. That early spark stayed with me – even as life took me into a long and successful career in design and digital production.
For more than two decades, I worked professionally in graphic design, digital layout, and prepress production – solving visual challenges, optimizing artwork, and ensuring every final output was pixel-perfect and print-ready. I created thousands of designs for real clients, across every format imaginable. That experience taught me something priceless: details matter, aesthetics matter, and the user’s eyes always notice.
But the programming bug never left.
Over the years, I shifted into web design, learning HTML and CSS, building CMS-based websites, and diving deeper into the technology behind them.
But as I continued, the desire to build real, functional applications — with clean and attractive design – kept growing stronger. So I committed fully to software development. For the last few years, I’ve been learning and building almost daily: first with Python, then moving into Java and JavaFX. I earned certifications through highly-respected programs from the University of Michigan, UC San Diego, and Duke University, and put every new concept to work by creating real applications – not just following tutorials.
That’s where everything clicked:
All the design discipline and real-world client experience I gained over decades turned into a huge advantage in code.
Today, I build desktop and web applications that seamlessly blend design discipline and software engineering. Clean interfaces. Reliable functionality. Intuitive experiences.
Because software should not only work – It should feel great to use.
This is the bridge I build: Strong UI/UX + Solid, dependable code.
What I Do
- Java Desktop Applications – JavaFX interfaces built for real users
- UI/UX Design – polished layouts that enhance usability, not fight it
- Web Design & Development – WordPress, Divi & SEO-optimized content
- Python Tools & Automation – practical apps and data tasks
Every project is designed visually first, then brought to life with clean, maintainable code.
